Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 11, 2026

FriendsOf is a personal relationship-management application designed to help you remember the people in your life, organize your relationships, and decide when to reach out.

This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the FriendsOf mobile application, the website at friendsof.me, and related services.

FriendsOf is an independently operated personal project. References to “FriendsOf,” “we,” “us,” or “our” in this Policy refer to the individual operator of FriendsOf.

1. Privacy at a Glance

FriendsOf is designed around a local-first approach.

Your relationship information is normally stored directly on your device. We do not sell your personal information, use your relationship information for advertising, or create advertising profiles based on the people you add to the app.

Certain information may leave your device when you:

  • Enable optional automated cloud backups;

  • Purchase or manage a subscription;

  • Contact us for support;

  • Use the FriendsOf website;

  • Enable a feature that requires an external service; or

  • Submit information through a website form or mailing list.

2. Information Stored on Your Device

Depending on how you use the app, FriendsOf may store the following information locally on your device:

  • Names of people you add to FriendsOf;

  • Contact details you choose to save or import;

  • Relationship categories and relationship information;

  • Notes, reminders, important dates, and personal details you enter;

  • Check-in schedules and contact frequencies;

  • Records indicating when you last contacted or checked in with someone;

  • App settings and notification preferences;

  • Subscription status cached by the app; and

  • Other information you voluntarily add to the app.

This information is used to provide features such as reminders, relationship organization, check-in suggestions, relationship exploration, and contact history.

Unless you enable a feature that specifically transmits this information, such as automated cloud backups, this relationship information remains on your device and is not sent to FriendsOf servers.

3. Access to Your Device Contacts

FriendsOf may request permission to access contacts stored on your device.

Contact access is used only to help you select or add people to FriendsOf and to support actions such as calling, texting, emailing, or sharing a message through apps available on your device.

FriendsOf will request permission before accessing your contacts. You may decline or revoke this permission through your device settings.

Depending on the operating system and the feature you use, FriendsOf may:

  • Display contacts so you can choose a person;

  • Import selected contact information into the app;

  • Read information needed to perform a user-requested contact action; or

  • Use the operating system’s contact picker without obtaining access to your full address book.

FriendsOf does not sell your contacts, publish them, use them for advertising, or contact people in your address book on your behalf without an action initiated by you.

Information you select from your contacts may become part of your locally stored FriendsOf data and, if automated cloud backup is enabled, may be included in your backup.

4. Communications and Contact Actions

FriendsOf may allow you to initiate calls, text messages, emails, or shared messages using applications installed on your device.

FriendsOf does not control those external communication services. When you choose a communication method, the relevant phone, messaging, email, or sharing application may process information under its own privacy policy.

FriendsOf does not automatically send messages or contact people without your action.

5. Notifications

FriendsOf may request permission to send notifications.

Notifications may remind you about people to contact, upcoming check-ins, or activity within the app. Notification content may include the names of people you have added to FriendsOf.

Notifications may be visible on your lock screen depending on your device settings. You are responsible for configuring notification previews and lock-screen privacy through your operating system.

You may disable notifications at any time through the app or your device settings.

6. Automated Cloud Backups

Automated cloud backup is an optional FriendsOf Pro feature.

When you enable automated backups, information stored in FriendsOf may be transmitted to and stored using cloud infrastructure so that it can later be restored. Backup information may include:

  • People and contact details stored in the app;

  • Relationship categories;

  • Notes and important dates;

  • Check-in schedules;

  • Contact and interaction history;

  • App preferences; and

  • Other FriendsOf data included in the backup system.

Cloud backups are used only to provide backup and restoration functionality.

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect backup information during transmission and storage. However, no electronic storage or transmission system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

FriendsOf does not claim that backups are end-to-end encrypted unless the app specifically states that end-to-end encryption has been implemented.

You should maintain any additional copies of information that are important to you. FriendsOf is not intended to be the sole permanent repository for critical information.

You may disable automated backups from the app settings. Disabling future backups may not immediately delete backups already stored. You may request deletion of stored backups by contacting us at we@friendsof.me.

7. Subscription and Purchase Information

FriendsOf may offer paid subscriptions, free trials, or other in-app purchases through the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Payments are processed by Apple or Google. FriendsOf does not directly receive or store your complete payment card information.

FriendsOf uses RevenueCat to manage subscription status, purchases, entitlements, free trials, and restoration of purchases. RevenueCat may process information such as:

  • An app-specific user or device identifier;

  • Subscription status;

  • Product and entitlement information;

  • Purchase dates;

  • Renewal and expiration information;

  • App Store or Google Play transaction information; and

  • Technical information needed to validate and manage purchases.

Apple, Google, and RevenueCat process information under their own privacy policies and contractual terms.

8. Technical and Diagnostic Information

FriendsOf may receive limited technical information needed to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the app.

Depending on the services implemented in the current version of FriendsOf, this may include:

  • App version;

  • Device and operating-system type;

  • General language or regional settings;

  • Crash information;

  • Error logs;

  • Diagnostic events;

  • Anonymous or pseudonymous app identifiers;

  • Subscription-related events; and

  • Security or service-performance information.

FriendsOf does not use this information to build advertising profiles.

If additional analytics, crash-reporting, or monitoring services are introduced, this Policy and the relevant app-store disclosures will be updated.

9. Website Information

When you visit friendsof.me, the website or its service providers may automatically process limited technical information, including:

  • Internet Protocol address;

  • Pages requested;

  • Date and time of access;

  • Referring page;

  • General location inferred from an Internet Protocol address;

  • Cookie or session information; and

  • Security, spam-prevention, and server-log data.

This information may be used to operate the website, maintain security, prevent abuse, understand website performance, and diagnose technical problems.

10. Website Forms, Email, and Mailing Lists

When you contact FriendsOf, submit a form, request support, or subscribe to updates, we may receive information such as:

  • Your name;

  • Email address;

  • Message;

  • Support request;

  • Any other information you voluntarily provide.

This information is used to respond to you, provide requested support, send updates you have requested, and maintain relevant communication records.

You may unsubscribe from promotional email using the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting we@friendsof.me.

Transactional or service-related communications may still be sent when necessary to respond to a request or provide a service you initiated.

11. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The FriendsOf website may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for:

  • Website functionality;

  • Security;

  • Spam and abuse prevention;

  • Remembering preferences;

  • Form submission;

  • Subscription management; and

  • Basic website measurement.

Where legally required, non-essential cookies will not be used without appropriate notice or consent.

You may restrict cookies through your browser. Some website features may not function correctly when cookies are disabled.

12. Service Providers

FriendsOf may use service providers to operate specific parts of the app and website. These may include:

  • Apple, for App Store distribution and purchases;

  • Google, for Google Play distribution and purchases;

  • RevenueCat, for subscription and entitlement management;

  • Cloud-hosting and database providers, for optional backups and service infrastructure;

  • Website-hosting and domain providers;

  • Email-delivery and mailing-list providers;

  • Security, anti-spam, and CAPTCHA providers;

  • Error-monitoring or diagnostic providers; and

  • Other technical providers necessary to operate FriendsOf.

These providers may process information only for the services they provide, subject to their own terms, privacy policies, and applicable agreements.

FriendsOf does not authorize service providers to sell relationship information or use it for their own behavioral advertising.

13. How Information Is Used

Information may be used to:

  • Provide and maintain FriendsOf;

  • Store and organize the information you enter;

  • Generate check-in reminders and relationship insights;

  • Perform actions you request;

  • Provide optional backup and restoration;

  • Manage subscriptions and paid features;

  • Respond to support requests;

  • Maintain website and service security;

  • Prevent fraud, abuse, or unauthorized access;

  • Diagnose technical problems;

  • Improve reliability and usability;

  • Comply with applicable law; and

  • Protect the rights, safety, and integrity of FriendsOf and its users.

14. How Information May Be Disclosed

Information may be disclosed:

  • To service providers performing functions on our behalf;

  • When you direct the app to interact with another application or service;

  • When reasonably necessary to investigate fraud, abuse, security threats, or violations of the Terms;

  • When required by law, regulation, subpoena, court order, or valid government request;

  • To protect the rights, safety, or property of FriendsOf, its operator, users, or others; or

  • As part of a future transfer of the FriendsOf project, provided that the recipient agrees to handle personal information consistently with applicable law and this Policy.

FriendsOf does not sell personal information.

FriendsOf does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

15. Data Retention

Information stored locally remains on your device until you remove it, delete the app’s data, uninstall the app, reset the app, or use an available deletion feature.

Deleting the app may delete locally stored information. It may not delete:

  • Cloud backups;

  • Subscription records maintained by Apple, Google, or RevenueCat;

  • Support communications;

  • Website server logs; or

  • Information that must be retained for legal, security, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes.

Cloud backups are retained while necessary to provide backup and restoration services or until they are deleted in accordance with the app’s available controls, a valid deletion request, or the applicable retention process.

Support communications and website records may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to requests, resolve disputes, maintain security, and comply with legal obligations.

Information may also be retained in temporary backups for a limited period before being overwritten or deleted.

16. Deleting Your Information

You may delete locally stored FriendsOf information through available app controls or by removing the app and its data from your device.

Before deleting the app, review whether you have enabled cloud backups. Uninstalling the app may not automatically delete data stored in a cloud backup.

To request deletion of cloud backups or personal information controlled directly by FriendsOf, contact:

we@friendsof.me

Please include enough information for us to identify the relevant data. We may need to verify your request before processing it.

Purchase and subscription records controlled by Apple, Google, or RevenueCat may be subject to their own retention requirements and account controls.

17. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights concerning personal information controlled by FriendsOf, including rights to:

  • Request access;

  • Request correction;

  • Request deletion;

  • Object to or restrict certain processing;

  • Withdraw consent;

  • Request a portable copy of certain information; and

  • Appeal or complain to a relevant privacy authority.

These rights may be subject to legal exceptions.

Because most FriendsOf relationship information is stored only on your device, FriendsOf may not possess or be able to retrieve that information. Local information should generally be managed directly through the app or your device.

Requests may be sent to we@friendsof.me.

18. International Processing

FriendsOf and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries.

These countries may have privacy laws that differ from those in your place of residence. Where required, reasonable measures will be used to support lawful international transfers.

19. Security

FriendsOf uses reasonable safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information and the current scale of the service.

You are also responsible for protecting your device, device passcode, operating-system account, app-store account, and any credentials associated with FriendsOf.

No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. FriendsOf cannot guarantee that information will never be lost, accessed without authorization, altered, or disclosed.

20. Children’s Privacy

FriendsOf is not directed to children under 13, or a higher minimum age where required by local law.

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children below the applicable minimum age. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the website or an online FriendsOf service, contact we@friendsof.me.

The fact that an adult user stores the name or relationship information of a child in the user’s private FriendsOf records does not mean that the child is a user of FriendsOf. Users should avoid storing unnecessary sensitive information about other people.

21. Information About Other People

FriendsOf allows you to store information about people in your life.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of information about another person is lawful, respectful, and appropriate. Do not use FriendsOf to store unlawful content, highly sensitive information that is unnecessary for the app’s purpose, or information obtained through harassment, stalking, deception, or unauthorized access.

22. Third-Party Services and Links

FriendsOf may contain links to external websites or allow interaction with third-party applications.

FriendsOf is not responsible for the privacy, security, content, or practices of third parties. Review their privacy policies before providing information to them.

23. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as FriendsOf changes.

The updated Policy will be posted on friendsof.me with a revised effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the app, website, or another reasonable method.

Continued use of FriendsOf after an updated Policy takes effect means the updated Policy will apply to future use, subject to any consent requirements imposed by law.
